Installing Visual Basic locally

Install .NET 10

The Visual Basic track uses .NET 10. To build and test the exercises locally, install the .NET 10 SDK for your operating system: Install the SDK, not just the runtime.

Check your installation

Open a new terminal and run:

dotnet --version

The command should output 10.0.0 or later.

Editor support

The .NET SDK and a no-frills text editor are all you need to complete the exercises. For more advance features such as code completion and debugging, consider one of these editors:

• Visual Studio 2026 on Windows
• Visual Studio Code on Windows, Linux, or macOS
• JetBrains Rider on Windows, Linux, or macOS
